The Jewish Community know their history because their parents and forefathers practice/d it daily... almost to a point where it was habitual. and NO, it did not come from listening to boring speakers but from sheer devotion to their Yeshiva schools and tradition.
The reason why Filipino-American youth feel so distant is because most Filipino parents teach their children only English because it is their, "Golden Dream" - for their children to live a better life than them. Listening to speakers, whether or not they are as distinguished as you may say, will not DEEPEN the depth of knowledge that only Parents can instill into their children. I don't care how many times you may say it. The truth is that Filipino parents come to the states to raise children that will speak "perfect english" and acquire a better standard of living than the ones they had back in the P.I.
Also, one more thought:
The Jewish know about their heritage and are so strong today because they went through the Holocaust. Millions upon millions of Jews were tortured and murdered for the sake of one man's insanity.
I don't know about you, but until the Filipinos go through a mass genocide, I wouldn't cite this as easily as you.
