Who is District 7?
DVII was founded in 1993 by a group of Virginia college students. After the George Washington University Spring Conference at Washington D.C., the idea manifested that Southern Virginia schools could benefit from FIND's goals of bringing young, educated Filipinos together to build a stronger, more innovative force in America. Harnessing the energy of some of Virginias leading colleges students, District seven emerged, constituted of the College of William and Mary, Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Virginia, Old Dominion University, Virginia Polytechnic Institute, and James Madison University. Recognized at the Fall 1993 Dialogue in Rochester, DVII was officially inducted during the second year of FIND's young existence. Since then, two additional schools have been added to District VII, Tidewater Community College and Norfolk State University. District VII is fueled by students own intense appetites for knowledge and active participation into Filipino and Filipino-American affairs and by the collective support of Virginia universities, colleges, and high schools; parents and relatives; professors and advisors; local associations and Filipino organizations; and the extensive business community. The Fall Dialogue held at the University of Virginia in October 1995 demonstrates this strong support of DVII. From facilitators to volunteers, hard work and persistence from communities throughout Virginia made all the difference in making the 1995 Dialogue a success. Through accelerated commitment, DVII persists in making its presence known.
